Usually I will only review items I bought on Amazon. This hat I bought five years ago before Amazon carried the product line. I have a couple of reasons for introducing this now.
But first, women love this hat! Forget about what I might think personally. Women come up to me in places like supermarkets and compliment the hat, just out of the blue. No one ever compliments my other hats like this, not even my much more expensive Indiana Jones hat. But they love his hat. Unfortunately, the interest seems to stop there, and they don't ask me out.
The hat itself has stood up pretty well to five years of use, so for the price it's a good deal. It's not a highly finished hat and doesn't have either a liner or chinstrap, but both would be obtrusive.
My first specific reason for writing has to do with deals. A well-known company whose name rhymes with bats in the belfry is putting these hats on clearance at half what you might see on Amazon. Check these things out, you might get a real bargain.
Second, you will probably find after a couple of years that the crown of the hat is crumpling and the hat looked pretty, well, squashed. This happened to mine. I used spray starch on the inside, a hair dryer to heat up the leather on both sides, and crumpled newspaper to stuff into the hat to help it keep its shape. Then I waited a day. The hat regained its shape. A wipe down with leather conditioner completed the process.
By the way, if you're tempted to spend more to get one of these hats with crocodile or kangaroo leather, don't bother. The regular leather is just as good. Save your money.

This hat rocks! I was heitant to buy a hat "sight unseen" but it had many good reviews, so I took a chance. I'm so glad I did. I love it, I got compliuments, quite literally, from day one. Someone reviewed that the sizing is a little snug, and that is true. If you are on the cusp, opt for the next size. I have a freakishly small head, and their version of small was actually snug on me.

I have had this hat for 2 years now and it has held up remarkably well (it's been all over the world) and still retains it's shape even after rolled up in baggage. The only problem I have with it is the leather braiding; it has come loose from the hat and no amount of glue will hold it in place. Eventually it is going to peel right off and I don't think the hat will look as good then; I did spring for the kangaroo version but as a previous reviewer said the regular leather is probably just as good. I would buy another one (a size smaller this time) but I also hope they find a way to secure the braiding more permanently to the hat!!
Honest reviews on Barmah Hats Squashy Fullgrain Leather Hat 1026BR / 1026BL
Barmah brand hats originated in Australia about 15 years ago. Many of their best selling models are derived from time proven outdoor working hat designs used by Australian stockmen and drovers. Barmah hats are practical and virtually indestructible. They are also quite stylish and attention getting in a positive way. I have had numerous persons approach me in public places and start a conversation when I was wearing a Barmah hat. {Unfortunately, most of the really attractive women were more interested in my hat and where the could buy one, than myself.} Today, Barmah is making some of its most popular models both in Australia and in the USA, to satisfy both its growing market demand the preferences of its USA customers who would prefer to purchase a high quality American made vs foreign made product. As an American, I find it both surprising and encouraging that an Australian manufacturer has started making goods here at a time when many long established, high quality, American leather goods makers have moved their manufacturing operations to low wage Asian countries, like China.

Looks nice, keeps rain off of my head, sun out of my eyes. Bit on the small side for listed size.
