When i read the reviews on this hat on Amazon, i was nervous that my 23 and almost a half inch head would be too big for it. I took the chance because it was only ten bucks. Turns out, it fits like a glove.(A head glove) The flap part totally covers my neck. If you have a regular size head, there is a draw string in the back to reduce the size.

My husband wanted a dark colored sun shielding hat for fall (he has lots of light colored summer ones). He chose this one and even though it doesn't claim to have sun blocking properties, the flaps on the back and side are enough for him. It's perfect--light weight, dark colored for fall and winter, and he could probably even wear a thin stocking cap under it when it gets cold. Perfect for keeping the sun off him when he is in the woods or shooting or hunting--he was very happy with the way the flaps come forward for good protection for him (he has to keep the sun off his skin).

It covers the ears & the back. Downside is that it doesn't cover you if the sun is infront of you. I know that's common sense but it's just a thing to keep in mind prior to buying this. But overall it's a good durable hat! the flaps aren't thick; they're thin.
