I admit that I hesitated before purchasing this hat, as it seemed a little "over the top" as sunhats go, but I'm so glad that I ordered two -one for my husband and one for myself!

This replaces my husband's flap hat with a baseball cap brim, and is far superior in comfort, sun protection, moisture-wicking ability and ventilation, and it helps him stay cool under the sun whether he is doing roof work, exterior prep and painting, gardening, fishing or other outdoor activities.

I wore mine for the first time yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by how well it fit and how comfortable it was. The sweatband is very soft and does not leave a mark. It is so much better than a straw sunhat, and bees and wasps are not attracted to the khaki color at all. The ventilation was excellent and it kept me cool in the hot sun, and the flap and wide brim allowed me to be out in the sun much longer. I even wore it when I went out to run errands, and two people asked me where I got the cool hat. Two other people gave me a wide berth and anxious glances as I walked past them on the street (it's the hat, folks :D) and as an old white lady it made me giggle to know that I was no longer "invisible" to them! Too funny. I definitely would not wear it to the courthouse, bank or church, though. Maybe the Social Security office. :D

Seriously, though, we live in a windy coastal town, and I appreciate the cord and clip, as does my husband. Losing a sunhat while boating or fishing can have consequences of the sunburn kind.

Hands down, this hat is my all time favorite. Over more than half a century I have purchased and received many hats... they seem to wander in and out of my life like cats and humans tend to do, but this one is definitely a keeper. So if you are looking for a great sunhat, don't hesitate! This is The One!

Update on 08-03-2011: As stated in the description, the hat is labeled 100% polyester (not nylon, as one reviewer believed), and therefore should not be sprayed with certain mosquito repellents, such as "OFF" brand products. (According to the label, OFF will not damage cotton, wool or nylon; it should not be sprayed on synthetics other than nylon.) However, because the hat brim is stiff and wide, I believe it would be easy to add mosquito netting if desired.

I've been looking for this type of head since I moved to south FL . I mainly use it when I work around the yard, and it keeps my head relatively cool with its ventilation holes . Whenever I go out on a boat, this hat's flap becomes really handy in keeping my ears & neck from being sun burned . It is made in China, nevertheless the quality is very good . The string & collar clip is a neat idea to keep the hat from blown off into the water ! It is definitely not for the fashion constious but it is very practical and does keep the sun off for sure.

I wanted protection from the sun and was pleased to find out that a bonus was how cool it was for my head. In the past, I had to deal with perspiration a lot more than now. The one thing (minor) that could have been better the bill will not keep a new profile when I try to shape it.

I bought this hat for my 6 year old son who really wanted one like this to wear at school since it gets sunny in California pretty much year round and this last summer was really sunny and hot some days. He loves it. He didn't get to wear it much since I bought it a little late in the season. I compared a lot of hats of this design and was looking for good coverage, not simply a baseball cap with a back which leaves a gap at the sides and, well, looks like a baseball cap with a back. This was the best price for the best design. This hat also comes with a metal clip to clip it onto your shirt on windy days, and a drawstring to cinch it in back to make it a bit smaller for good fit.

There's a black felt lining for a sweatband and 4 grommets for venting, along with a side vent strip on each side. The hat is 100% polyester and says "one size fits all" and is made in China. The circumference is 21 1/2 " or 54 1/2 cm around uncinched. The bill is 3 1/4" long (the dimension that sticks out perpendicularly from the hat and shades your face). The back flap is 8 1/2" in length.

The only caveat is that I wish it came in a stone color, but this is a nice dark khaki color that goes with everything as well. I highly recommend this hat if your head is 54 cm in circum. or less.
