After wearing a floppy boonie hat for sun protection and was just tired of that floppy brim.Thus, my search for this Dorfman Pacific hat they call "The 'Outdoor' Hat" after my uncle gave my 6 yr old son one as a gift for sun protection. The store where he bought it had no more.
Dorfman Pacific's web site does not feature this hat. Internet searches for a floating, sun and outdoor hat under Dorfman Pacific netted several sites, but it was sold out. Fortunately, I found one here on Amazon and apparently it is now sold out. The size I ordered was large. My son's did not fit and I guess it was a small but don't know as there are no markings on it indicating size.
I certainly hope that Dorfman Pacific offers this hat again. While it is not a fashion statement, it is functional. What I like about the hat is the brim does not flop, it stays firm and offers excellent sun protection at about 3 1/2" around.
This hat was priced right. While not a Tilley, it cost about 1/2 the price. It is made of breathable 100% cotton, packs easily by pushing down the crown down flat. The string is great as you have less chance of loosing it when it is windy. And it floats as I found out.
