This is a fine cowboy hat (couldn't we call them "western hats" rather than "cowboy hats"; the latter sounds a bit childish and puts one in mind of a kid wearing one of those red felt cowboy hats with the woven white ribbon looping around the rim). As all well=made straw hats are, there is no "give" in the measurement (7 1/2 round oval MEANS 7 1/2 round oval) so if your hat size is even one size in either direction or long oval it will be less comfortable than it could be. When giving the various sizes available Amazon should give this additional alternative, especially with straw hats.

I've noticed in Tucson if the weather is unusually humid (during the "monsoon" season; June, July and August) sweat practically pours down from my head. The leather inner band works for about two minutes, then gives up like a poorly constructed earthen dam. It's even worse when I use the old trick of lining the inside of the band with wax paper to keep the sweat from discoloring the straw. Fortunately, this year's monsoon season is over so I can quit wearing a rain coat to protect me from a downpour; rain, sweat or both.

I have aSTetson felt ilove and wanted a nice straw,a friend said to check out the Resistol. Its alittle more spendy than others I've had but the quality is excellent,and should last for years, and fits perfectly,I buy mine one size bigger because I like to add alittle wax paper to inside band and astripe of towel inside of band to protect from sweat stains.

The first version of this hat I bought at a well known western store in Dallas, TX about 6 years ago. Since moving to Michigan, I've been afraid to wear it, because I thought I could never find another excellent hat to replace it, especially here where cowboy culture is almost nonexistent.

Finally, Resistol came back on the market with this style and I love it! Cowboy gear is my life's uniform, I've worn boots, jeans and the ubiquitous cowboy shirt most of my life and find it suits me, and this hat is no exception. The first hat I bought in Dallas was true to size, shape and fit, and has been perfect. Now, I have a replacement that's made to the same exacting standards of finery.

I love the new fur hat band, my first one had a studded leather one, which was equally masculine and refined. This new fur one is just as elegant. You can't find a better hat for the money, and the Amazon vendor I bought this hat from had the best price anywhere in the U.S.

As with all hats, your face shape, size and personal tastes all dictate how well a hat wears on your head, so each person is an individual and so is each hat. Each one has to be "fitted" to the other, so to find this hat was a perfect match unseen and untouched through e-commerce was a risk, but one I would take again with this hat. To find that this design is so precisely matched to my previous one in fit, style and branding, I would swear they were cloned.

This is not a faux hat, this is the real thing, so if you just wanna look like a dime store cowboy, get one of the cheapies, but a real cowboy wears a one just like this Resistol Beaumont.

It was probably my fault, but it came as a round oval instead of a long oval. Had to break it in over a several day period in order for it to fit right. Still not done, but eventually it will be ok. The only downfall on purchasing "fitted" items over the Internet without trying them on.
