I bought this hat to replace a cheap cotton version from another company. This one is much more effective and comfortable. The fabric and structure is soft (no stiff headband) but there is a pull cord/drawstring that sizes it to your head nicely. My head is 7 5/8 (big) and it fits just fine. The lack of a stiff headband makes the hat lighter and much more coomfortable for yard work. The alligator clip (to prevent blowing overboard) is easily removable; I don't need it for the yard, but I saved it carefully to use on a boat trip.

The neck protective fabric is very light, almost too light because it blows around in the breeze. But it makes the hat lighter and cooler to wear in the heat, so the trade-off is well worth it. The fabric is longer than my old hat; I wear a bandana around my neck and can tuck the hat flap into it when trimming hedges (so no clippings go down my shirt) which is another nice unadvertised feature.

I wash the hat (by hand) after each use; I just spray it with laundry pre-wash (convenient) and scrunch it lightly under running water. The brim feels like it has a plastic piece inside, not cardboard like a ball cap, so the water is no problem. Hang it up with a clothespin (okay, you youngsters who have no idea what a clothespin is can hang it on a hook) to drip dry and it looks like it will last a long time. Highly recommended.

I have a severe problem with skin cancer. I really enjoy mowing my own yard ( 1 acre) and in Forida this is a problem. This hat gives my the necessary protection that I need. I highly recomend this hat.

I have stage 4 melanoma and a drug for it makes me way sensitive to uv rays. I get this hat and it has like 5 ink pen head size holes in the top. Thus no protection there. My dermatologist says no unprotected uv exposure because I'm way more sensitive than most people on this drug. Now 5 small holes may not seem like a big deal but that's 5 less skin cancers I have to deal with. So the hat goes back to coolibar and I'll keep my old fencing hood for now.

The difference between this hat and others I have tried is very noticeable. It takes me about five hours to trim and mow my acreage, so UV protection is a must for someone like me with (some) blond hair and fair skin. The other fishing hats I have tried are heavier, soak up moisture, and offer no UV protection. This hat rinses out easily and doesn't get stiff with age.

And like other reviewers, I have a relatively large head and can wear this comfortably--even with a sweatband underneath. It also offers great protection for my ears and the back of my neck. I've learned to respect the Florida sun. Sun damage can be a permanent problem.
