Now that I've used my Tilley LTM2 some more, I'm a little less enthusiastic about it, mainly because it tends to become airborne in a good breeze. The hat does come with strings that can be tied under the chin, but that can be somewhat uncomfortable and looks rather dorky. All of my Tilleys are head size 7+1/4, but I might have been wiser to get the next smaller size, 7+1/8, of the LTM2 for a tighter head fit. What I have done is wash the hat and attempt to shrink it slightly, and now it stays on my head better. I still think Tilley hats are the best that one can get for appearance and durability, and they come with that lifetime warranty.
My original review follows:
The Tilley LTM2 is my fifth Tilley hat, and I love them all. As an older person with sun-damaged skin, I do everything I can to avoid the direct rays of the sun. Although a have another Tilley summer hat, its brim is not as wide, especially on the sides. So when I found out about this hat, I thought: "This is the hat that I need."
This hat is lightweight --you barely know that it's on your head --and so is perfect for hot summer days. The brim is 4 inches wide at the front and back, and 3.5 inches wide at the sides. That's wide enough so that when the sun is high in the sky, my entire face and neck are shaded. The hat blocks most UV radiation; I think it's rated at least SPF 30. It's made of nylon and should be very durable. Like all Tilley hats, it's guaranteed for life, with a free replacement if it ever wears out.
The light color of the hat helps to reflect solar rays, but it might show dirt and stains rather easily. However, the hat can be washed, either by hand or by machine. It comes with an owner's manual, too.
I especially like this hat because it spares my having to use a lot of sun-block on my face when I'm outside on a sunny day.
