The Outdoor Research Men's Wind Pro Hat does a terrific job at blocking wind and keeping in the heat. I was skeptical when I first opened up the package because the hat is very lightweight and didn't have any sort of insulation as far as I could tell. I wore this hat on a few mountain climbs this past winter in zero-degree weather and at no point did my head or ears get chilly. This hat is definitely for freezing temperatures, otherwise it is a bit to warm. The only thing I would change about it is the boxy shape it makes on my head due to the corners on the seams.

This hat was actually warmer than what I wanted. However it has come in plenty handy for sub freezing runs and being outside to deal with snow and exercise the dog on those really nasty days.Best Deals for Outdoor Research Men's Wind Pro Hat
Impressions after a couple of weeks of daily use (Temperature: -20ºC to 0ºC; Humidity: around 50%; Winds: Calm to 50 km/hr):* Head size is 59 cm. Size L/XL is close fitting, but not snug. Easily pulls down well over ears and back of head; even fits over OR Wind Pro Balaclava without being uncomfortably tight.
* Excellent wind blockage and warmth.
* Not crazy about the pointy, square corners on the crown, but I wear it for warmth, not looks.
Haven't worn a beanie in years, but this one suits me well.
