I'd been looking around for a Tampa Bay Lightning hat with the new (2011) logo for a while. I didn't care for many of the non-traditional designs that have come out on hats. I mean, really, the logo is supposed to be a simple statement and Reebok and other companies have been distorting it (and other NHL team logos) in their offerings of late.
I had actually tried a Reebok "one size fits all" hat that followed this basic motif of just a blue hat with the logo, but with a non-structured crown (a backing where the logo is), it made the cloth hat seem flimsy and not worth the money that Reebok (or the NHL) were charging for the thing.
While I should be boycotting the NHL right now with the ongoing lockout, I wanted a hat with the new Lightning logo still. I'd already come across Mitchell and Ness designs for hats, but most of the Lightning related fare was with the old (1992-2007 and 2007-2011) logos. When I scanned Amazon over for the 100th time looking at Lightning hats and came across this offering, I was pretty much sold from the get go.
The bill of the cap seems a little flimsier than I'd like, but maybe that's because I'm used to my recent hats having a much-more firm bill than I was used to?
The structured crown gives confidence that the hate isn't going to fold up or wrinkle from excessive wear.
Basically, it's just a simple and effective design. The logo stands out against the blue field it's displayed on. That's the type of design the Bolts were going for with the logo image and how it should be presented.
I'm not a fan of the large size of the Mitchell and Ness logo on the back of the hat, but I guess you have to make tradeoffs here and there.
