When you are ready to get serious about sun protection, you are ready for this hat. It is not designed for style, although it looks fine. It is designed to give maximum shade in a practical way. The large 4 inch brim does it's job. The generous vents mean that you won't be wanting to remove it in hot weather (when the sun is usually the strongest). The chin strap means that when the wind kicks up and tugs on the big brim, you won't lose it.
It even doubles as a respectable rain hat, since the nylon sheds water well. That makes it versatile for situations when you don't know what weather to expect. This is nice for camping trips or tropical locations. One hat for all conditions.
Unlike this company's most popular hat (the adventure hat), this one does not have a cape. That means you get more cooling airflow around the back of the neck and the look is more conventional. Otherwise, they work about the same in most situations.

Just one more thing to note: While this hat blocks direct UV radiation from above, the protection is not absolute. it is still possible to get sun burn while wearing this due to low angle UV radiation and reflection from ground, water, clothing, etc. Consider this to be just one part of a sun safety plan.
