This crushable wide-brimmed hat is perfect for keeping the snow and rain off my face and glasses in Michigan's nasty winters. Water beads up on the felt and can be easily knocked or brushed off when you get indoors. It keeps my head warm when a heavier hat is unnecessary. The brim can be worn pulled down or with the edges flipped up. Comfortable fit and slightly stretchable it can be pulled down tightly in windy conditions. Love the hat! I'm considering another in a lighter color for warmer months to keep the sun off my bald head.

This is am amazing product, fits well, crushable, waterproof, etc, all for less than $60. Now I know that most people in most places don't wear hats anymore, but this is not true in New Orleans. This is truly a hat town and if you like to dress sharp a hat can really complete your look. You have to have a certain amount of self confidence to wear a hat these days, but I will assure you that ladies notice.

I would have purchased this product locally at my favorite hat store but they didn't have this particular style, I might go ahead and go pick up the fairbanks there which they do carry but this is a slightly more casual hat than that model, because of the leather band. You can wear this one with a brown leather jacket or a camel coat overcoat and it will look very sharp.

In any case, why anyone would buy a foreign made hat for the same or more money, I have no idea but I guarantee you will be pleased with the construction of this one.

I just noticed that this review is for the fairbanks, I actually bought the briar model which has a leather hat band and slightly wider brim 2 3/4 inches, I have a large head so I feel that the wider brim looks better on me personally, but you cant go wrong with either.

And if your ever in New Orleans, go to the "hatter" there, been in business for 128 years and 5 generations, a truly great hat shop.
