I was also hesitant in purchasing on-line. I'm glad I didn't wait. Ordered this hat in 'Brown' it has a deep brown leather look. This hat had a oil base for water resistance' but to make sure I made it water-proof, I hand rubbed my own waterproof wax on the hat. You need to warm the hat with a hair dryer not to hot but enough for the wax to seep into the leather as you rub it in. Any excess wipe up with a clean soft cloth.

You will still note excess wax on the hat, but after a few days the leather will finally absorb all in (patience). I live in the Northwest where it rains constantly in the Fall and Winter months, so I have had a chance to test it in heavy rain and windy weather the leather is limber enough that it gives in to heavy wind. By the way' the hat fits perfect in sizing, I ordered a size large' my tape measure 23" "Perfect". Like the one review' where he stated he finally found his hat!!. I believe I also found what I was looking for. Thanks to Barmah Hats' since it's shipped directly from them. It arrived a few days early' well packaged inside and out' you'll see what I mean. Will I order again?, Definitely!!
