I won't bother you with Tilley praise...they're great usable hats, incredibly well thought out, well-constructed by a company that backs up their products. Expensive at full price but still a value because they will, literally, last you the rest of your life. If you want to know more, go read all the other Tilley product reviews.
The Tech-Wool is the same pattern as the standard Winter Hat, metal buckle replaced by a leather loop but same features, same fit. Mine is a dark brown heather color but the tech fabric is a twist. 75% wool and little lighter/thinner with a more polished hand (smoother) than the old tweed, but still good body and holds shape. Tag says there's a laminate lining...I can't detect it and I'm not sure what it does. Picture doesn't do the hat justice...when worn, it has the same sloping front/back brim as the standard Winter Hat (useful in the rain).
Winter travel is over for the year but when the cold rolls around again, I'll be able to choose between great great black and brown travel hats. In the meantime, I'll be hunting down a smaller brim summer Tilley...

I'm a lady with a large head. It's hard for me to find hats, men's or women's, that fit. Following Tilley's sizing guide that you can fin on their website, my 23.5 inch head would have qualified for a 7 1/2 size. I opted for a 7 5/8. I totally could have gone for a size bigger, but after removing the sizing device, which is meant to ensure proper sizing whether the ear flaps are up of down, it fits perfectly either way. Snug, but warm and solid against the wind.I've never really been a hat person. After moving to central Colorado and now living at an elevation over 10,000 feet, I've learned how essential a good hat is. This Tilley's brim protects against the sun, which is brutal up here. The tec-wool is warm, without being overly hot when hiking. It's water-resistant, especially against snow (I've already gotten to test it out against that one), and it looks great. I agree with other reviews, pay no attention to the unflattering picture on Amazon. Go to the Tilley website to check it out. The ear warmers are also very nice. I use them often.
It's my favorite hat now. I wear it all the time. My only complaint is that there is no way to tie it to your head. It hasn't happened yet, but it seems a stiff gale could knock it off. I would really hate to lose it...
