It's a durably built hat toorelatively easy to clean, and holds it's shape tough. I've bent it up a good few times by accident but the brim still has it's original shape.
The hat keeps you warm in the cold (not when it's REALLY cold though. Below freezing, stick with another hat. It doesn't keep your ears covered at all either) and easily blocks sun from your eyes and from burning your neck.
The quality of wool is fantastic; pendleton has a a reputation for a reason!
It does have a few problems though; first off, this is NOT an all season hat. Wear this in a warm summer, you might end up with heat stroke. It doesn't breathe very well and gets pretty sweaty on your head. This is a fall, early winter, and spring hat.
Second, this hat will blow off your head REAL easy. I don't know if it's the shape or the way it sits on your head, but something about this hat makes it really easy to blow off my head in a breeze, more-so than any other hat I own.
Third, it picks up EVERYTHING. Dust, dirt, fur, you name it. If you get this hat, get a hat brush as well, otherwise it'll be real dirty.
Because of how dirty and hot it gets, this is not a hat to wear during hard work. The day I tried it on the job, I felt hot as heck and came home with a hat that wouldn't let go of wood shavings. However, for cool day hikes, walks about town, matching a hat with formal attire, and MANY other circumstances, this hat is great.
Despite these detractions, I would recommend this hat to anyone looking for a stylish and durable hat. I love having it, and it makes a perfect addition to anyone's wardrobe! I wish more people wore full-brim hats; they don't know what they're missing!
Edit: I finally got a chance to try out the hat in light rain, which is what this hat says it can do. Well, it did a wonderful job. I have never felt more comfortable in rain; my head was completely dry, it kept water from running down my neck, and it even kept my head warm through the cold showers. But there is a catch: coming back to find my hat, one of the indents in the crown is slightly misshapen, but really only enough to bother someone obsessive like me. There is also what seems to be a slight discoloration in one spot. It may be my mind playing tricks on me, but I'm going to watch that spot in different lights too see if it really IS discoloration.
Edit: Was some discoloration, but it came out with some brushing, not a big deal.

Great hat. Super in the rain and snow. Looks good and can be packed. Look out for big wind and hold on. Should send a sizer with the hat to make a tight fit easier to achieve.Best Deals for Pendleton Men's Outback Hat
I can't even begin to tell you how much I like this hat. In the tradition of making quality goods, Pendleton has done it again. I recently picked one of these up at Pendleton's Washougal, Washington mill. Right away, this hat had to work. The Pacific North-West in Winter will present the idea conditions for testing any item of wardrobe. As I walked out of the store, this hat had to keep me warm, keep me dry, and stay on my head. If Indiana Jones needed another hat, he would pick this one. My head measures about 22", and the medium size is a nice, snug fit. This is important. Your head will stretch the hat out slightly to form a perfect fit. You don't want the hat to blow off your head. And remember to touch it up with 3M 4106D 10-Ounce Scotchgard Fabric Protector for Fabric and Upholstery so that it stays waterproof. This hat looks great with a Golden Bear Sportswear A-2E leather bomber jacket, Pendleton shirt, Levi Strauss jeans, and Tony Lama boots.Honest reviews on Pendleton Men's Outback Hat
I originally purchased this hat for my husband's Christmas gift. He and I were impressed with the quality and workmanship and I decided to get one for myself. Problem: I ordered my size based on measuring my head and the hat is a half size too big. I ordered a sizer and look forward to wearing the hat before it gets too warm. I was also disappointed to discover that a company listed online as Pendleton-usa has the hat made in China.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Pendleton Men's Outback Hat
I got this item pretty fast for living in Alaska. I have an older one, but am not sure if my wife tossed it when she tossed me :)I love Pendleton hats, particularly for fishing. Spray the brim with deet, and bugs stay out of your face. This is a quality hat with no faults. I wish I'd paid more attention to the sizing chart, however. Got the XXL when I should have gotten the XL. My fault! But if it's like my last one, it'll shrink a little. No matter. It's well worth it!
