This hat is based on a frame that is a rather high tensile plastic or vinyl that is springy. I've owned this hat for 2 months maybe once or twice a week and the this still isn't quite broken in yet. the shape of this hat is roundish and my head is not. By pressing in on the sides I am able to get this on my head but it presses quite a lot on the front and back. I got a medium for my 21 3/4" head. I feel like i may have been better off getting a large but it will fit quite well once it is fully broken in in 3 or 4 months I figure.

On the flip side this hat looks like a more expensive one, the feather set on the side is colorful but not overboard, the shade of brown goes well with a lot of different things. The stitching is quite well done and the material stitched around the outer rim is so even it looks like a machine placed it. I can't find a single thread on this thing sticking out anywhere. Though this isn't what I would call a "crushable" hat, I can pretty much push the sides almost together without feeling like I'm going to damage the shape.

Ultimately I would say that this is not the superior product in the world of derby/bowler hats, it ends up being a good deal for the fact that it feels like it will last a very long time if you don't abuse it and fits perfectly to the budget of the average guy looking for something less common that's wearable on more occasions than just halloween.

Great addition to my St. Patrick's Day outfit. Far better quality than the basic silly party hats without the price charged by professional haberdashers. Keep it in the box and don't sit on it and it should last you a while.
