I bought this for my husband for Valentines Day. He likes to go ice fishing and loves this hat. It keeps him very warm even in the coldest wind.

This hat is very warm. I bought the XL hat and it is a little tighter than I would like with the ear flaps up on the inside of the hat. It is much better with the flaps down or folded up to the outside of the hat. If you need a warm hat then this is the one for you.

I ordered this and the Carhartt Men's Knit Hat With Visor,

This hat is bought for the ear covering, I can see occasionally trying to tuck them in and wear it like a regular cap

I wear a 7.5 hat size, hat fits good, In this respect the ears are just about covered, it feels like it will uncover them at any time

So message to Carhartt..............if your going to cover the ears then cover them, about an inch longer in the ear covering would be nice. I would trade off the tucking in for warm ears. Nice concept more ear covering

The advantage of ther visor (both hats) is it keeps your hood from your eyes when snow blowing, shoveling etc. this is a good thing

I do not give 5-star ratings, almost as a matter of principle. But here, I make an exception. This hat is a fine product, well-designed, well-made, comfortable, useful and practical. Some reviewers have said sizes run tight. With the ear flaps folded under, as designed, yes--it is somewhat tight but wearable. With the ear flaps lowered over the ears, the cap fits very well. I purchased this a couple of months or so ago, and have been waiting for it to get really cold before I wrote a review. It is now January in the Northeast and, yes, it is really, really cold and windy. The cap keeps my head comfortably warm. Perhaps it's the finish, but it also cuts out the wind very effectively. The ear flaps fits my head perfectly -not too snug but tight to prevent wind from the ear area. I can lower the brim just over my eye-brows which, while perhaps looking weird, prevents my upper sinuses from freezing over.I had previously purchased a winter-type warm cap from LL Bean (micro fiber) . It was too light weight and simply not warm, wind resistant or comfortable. This is much better and at the price, I felt it was a real bargain, especially compared to some of the other choices.

Nice hat. Seems to be well made. Gave it 4 stars because the sizing is a little off. Since the medium/large fits me kind of tight. I do own another, next size up, large/extra large hat fits me too loose! Go figure...... I am hoping the medium/large stretches a little to suit my needs.
